ABOUT CLIMATE CLUB: For the last two years, Pomelo's Climate Club / Green Team conducted a schoolwide energy audit and promoted energy saving at Pomelo. We joined the Empowered Schools project and  LAUSD's Heroes for Zero contest. We have presented our work at the West Hills Neighborhood City Council and collaborated with the Movies that Matter Film Festival, winning first prize in animation for a short film. Additionally, we educated staff and students, including promoting Pomelo's composting program.

2025-2026 GOALS: For the 2025-2026 school year, we are trying a few very new things. First, we are going to start some indoor hydroponic gardening, and hopefully start Pomelo's first "farmers' market." Second, we are also going to explore solutions to climate issues using some fancy STEM Climate Action kits. Finally, rather than focusing on the typical and basic individual behavior change stuff, we are going to try to practice some "systems thinking" to try to address climate issues our world is facing. We will also continue to try to promote composting and food waste sorting at Pomelo, and may join Heroes for Zero or other district contests that arise over the school year.


TENTATIVE FALL MEETING SCHEDULE: Thursdays from 2:45 - 4:15*
* End time may be adjusted at a later date depending on funding/budget for programming.


START DATE: Thursday, September 25, 2025

REQUIREMENTS: This club is open to 4th and 5th graders. Students are expected to attend meetings on a weekly basis. Students causing disruptions to meetings will not be able to participate. 

COMMUNICATIONS: Families of all students who sign up will be added to a special group on Class Dojo where announcements and schedule changes will be shared.
